Allen Crawley Platform of Ovals

The Allen Crawley Oval is named after Allen Crawley, an Olympic athlete who competed in both sprinting and long jump. After his sports career, he joined Yarra Valley in 1969 and became the first Sportsmaster in 1970. Allen didn’t just coach—he created a huge school spirit around sports, coaching boys and girls in hockey, tennis, and cricket. During his time, the Athletics team even won the Associated Grammar Schools Victoria (AGSV) Championships twice, in 1981 and 1985! When he retired in 2008, the school named the ovals after him as a lasting tribute.

Fun fact: Allen Crawley competed in two Commomwealth Games and at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. He held the Australian long jump record for ten years!
